Dinah Weimer
She grew up in Silver Creek then attended SUNY College at Fredonia where she received a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance. After graduation, she moved to Buffalo, NY, and began performing in several music ensembles while working full time in the underwriting department at Commercial Union Insurance Company. While residing in Buffalo, Dinah was a member of the Erie Philharmonic. She also performed as a substitute clarnetists with the Buffalo Philharmonic. Her first experience with the clarinet came at a young age when she discovered one that her mother had in a closet. She used to put it together and just hold on to it. She also tried putting popsicle sticks on it in place of reeds, but it never worked. Luckily, she finally found some proper reeds! As you can imagine, Dinah has had many varied experiences as a clarinetist. Aside from Maestro Zoltek, she has performed under the baton Semyon Bychkov, Maximiano Valdes, Walter Hendl, Eiji Oue, Doc Severinsen, Mitch Miller and Shari Lewis. She has played both pops and classical music professionally, but when hard-pressed on which one is her favorite she says, “I love pops music and playing musicals and would trade my day job in tomorrow if I could play musicals until retirement.”
