The mountains and valleys of Austria were an inspiration to Mozart, so it is fitting that Montana’s only week-long summer classical music festival centering on the music of Mozart and other Classical era composers should take place right here in the Flathead Valley! Just minutes away from the stunning scenery of Glacier National Park, the charming resort town of Whitefish provides the backdrop to Festival Amadeus. Each year since the Festival’s establishment in 2008, founding Music Director and Conductor John Zoltek has crafted innovative programs of intimate chamber and orchestral concerts and special educational events and receptions, enhancing the quality of life with great music experiences in the Flathead Valley for residents and visitors alike. Featuring the select Festival Amadeus Orchestra and a lineup of celebrated musicians from around the world, Festival Amadeus is a summer treat for the senses that should not be missed!
The 2020 Festival promises to be an especially exciting one as Festival Amadeus recognizes the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, aptly entitled “Beethoven Tribute”. Acclaimed guest artists will assemble from all over the world for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration opportunity. Performing are some of our favorite guest artists, including the Fry Street Quartet, pianist Ketevan Kartvelishvili and violinist William Hagen and new invitees like the dynamic cellist Ivan Karizna (Belarus) and elegant young pianist Albert Cano Smit (Switzerland). Audiences will thrill to outstanding concerts featuring Beethoven’s music, culminating with his grand Triple Concerto for violin, cello and piano. And of course, Mozart (who is believed to have taught Beethoven a few lessons) will also make an appearance at the Festival bearing his name with his beloved Piano Concerto #21.
Festival Amadeus this year runs from August 7th – 16th. Gorgeous music in a gorgeous setting. We’ll see you there!
